A popular socio-scientific issue discussed in our society recently is the use of In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD).1 In-vitro Fertilisation (IVF) was established to treat infertility caused by blocked or damaged fallopian tubes.1 IVF is usually used to treat a variety of infertility problems but it can also screen for any genetic disorders.1 There are six stages in IVF, ovarian stimulation, egg collection, fertilization, embryo development, embryo transfer and the luteal phase support.1 This whole process involves checking that the eggs are mature for collection before starting the whole process, then removing the eggs from the follicle in the ovaries using a large needle.1 They then place the eggs and sperm into a incubator to let them fertilise them, then the next morning the eggs are examined or any signs of fertilisation and the successful embryos are kept in the laboratory for another three to five days, the eggs are then watched to make s ure they are developing normally.1 They are then transferred back into the uterus between their 3rd and 6th day of the cycle.1 It then takes 9-11 days to know if the embryo has been successfully implanted.1 The last stage is then mainly focusses on hormone replacement injections and this then continues until the result of the cycle is known. This is helpful to American families because the healthy spouse does not have to spend all of his or her money on the sick spouse. They are able to spend money on needed repairs to their house or even buy a new car or fix up the old one. Medicaid has helped family life over the past years in the way that the family has more money to spend on their lives, instead of spending it all on a sick loved one. Another program that was established by the government is Social Security. Social Security is a social program that provides old-age benefits for retirees and their survivors, disability insurance for workers, and survivor benefits for dependents. As social insurance, the system does more than provide a base of income for the retired worker. It consciously redistributes wealth to adjust for other inequities in society and provides financial relief to many who might otherwise have to provide full support to aging or disabled relatives. Social Security does many things. For the poorest and most vulnerable elderly, it is their primary source of income. For many families facing hardship following a death, disability or unanticipated retirement, the program lightens their burden. Social Security also protects nine out of ten workers and their families and provides benefits each month to more than three million children. Social Security does not do one thing. It does not contribute to the continued growth of the federal budget deficit. Social Security is totally self-funded, and its growing reserves provide a stable financial base for current and future retirees. Americans do not have to worry about retirement because of this one program. It has influenced family life because the mother and father can retire early sometimes, which means they can stay at home with their children, and, in turn, makes a more tight family. There are more than just three programs that the government created to either help families, or, in some cases, hurt families. The three that were named above are geared at helping families by way of giving money back to them. Families benefit greatly from these programs because not too many families can afford to keep a loved one in a nursing home, or pay for a loved one’s hospital or medication bills. Medicare and Medicaid are geared at these types of families. Social Security on the other hand is geared at helping people start a life after retirement. When most people retire, they need some sort of income to help them survive, and Social Security provides that income. Nonetheless, government programs do have an impact on family life, and will continue to into the next century.

Note that this does not mean you wont get in- remember that 25% of students who enroll have a score that is at or below that lower number. Why Do Colleges Present 25th and 75th Percentile Data? You may wonder why the standard practice for ACT score reporting focuses on 25th and 75th percentile data rather than the full range of scores earned by matriculated students. The reason is rather simple- the outlying data is not an accurate representation of the type of student who typically attends the college or university. Even the countrys most selective colleges  admit a few students with ACT scores that are well below the norm. For example, 75% of enrolled students at Harvard University scored a 32 or higher on the ACT. However, this graph of Harvard admissions data  shows that a few students got in with ACT scores that were in the mid teens. How, exactly, did these students get in? The reasons could be many: perhaps the student did not have English as a first language but was exceptional in many other ways; perhaps the student had straight A grades and 5 scores on AP exams, but simply didnt perform well on the ACT; perhaps the student had such remarkable accomplishments that the admissions folks overlooked a sub-par ACT score; perhaps the student had a disadvantaged background that made the ACT an unfair measure of ability. That said, if you have a 15 ACT composite score, you shouldnt get your hopes up for Harvard. Without some kind of exceptional story or circumstances, the 25th percentile number of 32 is a much more accurate representation of what youll need to be admitted.   Similarly, even non-selective colleges will get a few students who have extremely high ACT scores.   But publishing a 35 or 36 as the upper end of ACT data wouldnt be meaningful to prospective students. Those high performing students would be the exception, not the norm. I think the main purpose of a resume is to provide a company with an overview of your professional achievements and background. Your resume acts as a marketing document, whether on paper or online, and its purpose is to introduce you to potential employers, promote what it is you have to offer and entice them into wanting to know more. According to Lauri Harwood, â€Å"a resume is a brief document, typically one or two pages, that details your qualifications for a particular job or job target.†Describe each main section of a rà ©sumà © from the textbook and what should be included in each of these sections: 1) Contact Information 2) Objective 3) Profile 4) Qualifications 5) Work Experience 6) Related Experience 7) Education Contact Information – The header of your rà ©sumà © should include your name, address, phone number, and email address, if you regularly use it. When submitting a paper version of your rà ©sumà ©, it is visually appealing to use a large font fo r your name. Include both a local and permanent address and a phone number so that an employer can easily reach you.This is especially important for graduating students. â€Å"The objective is a concise statement of your immediate employment goal (not your long-term career goal). It is the first section of the resume, immediately below the contact information on the first page. † A job objective statement shows employers the direction you want to go, your work preferences, and serves as a focal point for employers to review and analyze your rà ©sumà ©. Early Life Mata Hari was born Margaretha Geertruida Zelle in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, on August 7, 1876, as the first of four children. Zelles father was a hat maker by trade, but having invested well in oil, he had enough money to spoil his only daughter. At only 6 years old, Zelle became the talk of the town when she traveled in a goat-drawn carriage that her father had given her. In school, Zelle was known to be flamboyant, often appearing in new, flashy dresses. However, Zelles world changed drastically when her family went bankrupt in 1889 and her mother died two years later. Family Breakup After her mothers death, the Zelle family was split up and Zelle, now 15, was sent to Sneek to live with her godfather, Mr. Visser. Visser decided to send Zelle to a school that trained kindergarten teachers so that shed have a career. At the school, the headmaster Wybrandus Haanstra became enchanted by Zelle and pursued her. When a scandal broke out, Zelle was asked to leave the school, so she went to live with her uncle, Mr. Taconis, in The Hague. Marriage  and Divorce In March 1895, while still staying with her uncle, 18-year-old Zelle became engaged to Rudolph John MacLeod after answering a personal ad in the newspaper. (The ad had been placed as a joke by MacLeods friend.) MacLeod was a 38-year-old officer on home leave from the Dutch East Indies, where he had been stationed for 16 years. On July 11, 1895, the two were married. They spent much of their married life living in the tropics of Indonesia where money was tight, isolation was difficult, and Johns rudeness and Zelles youth caused serious friction in their marriage. Zelle and John had two children together, Norman-John MacLeod and Louise Jeanne MacLeod. Both children became quite ill in June 1899. Norman-John died at age 2, but Louise Jeanne survived and lived until 1919. Zelle and John suspected the children may have been poisoned by a disgruntled servant. In 1902, the couple moved back to The Netherlands and soon separated. Their divorce became final in 1906. Off to Paris Zelle decided to go to Paris for a new start. Without a husband, career, and money, Zelle used her experiences in Indonesia to create a new persona, one who donned jewels, smelled of perfume, spoke occasionally in Malay, danced seductively, and often wore very few clothes. She made her dancing debut in a salon and instantaneously became a success. When reporters and others interviewed her, Zelle continually added to the mystique that surrounded her by spinning fantastic, fictionalized stories about her background, including being a Javanese princess and daughter of a baron. To sound more exotic, she took the stage name Mata Hari, Malayan for eye of the day (the sun). Famous Dancer and Courtesan Zelle became famous. All things oriental were in fashion in Paris, and Zelles exotic looks added to her mystique. Zelle danced at both private salons and later at large theaters. She danced at ballets and operas. She was invited to large parties and traveled extensively. She also took a number of lovers (often military men from various countries) who were willing to provide her financial support in exchange for her company. Espionage, Capture, and Execution Zelle was no longer a sleek dancer when in 1916 she started to spy for France during World War I. She was actually 40 years old at the time, and her time as a dancer was long behind her. She fell in love with a Russian captain, Vladimir de Masloff, who was sent to the front and became injured. Zelle wanted to support him financially, so she accepted an offer to spy for France in mid-1916. France thought her courtesan contacts would be of use to its intelligence operation. She began to meet with German contacts. She provided the French with little useful information and may have begun to work for Germany as a double agent. The French eventually intercepted a German cable that named a spy code-named H-21, clearly a code name for Mata Hari. The French became convinced that she was a spy and arrested her on Feb. 13, 1917. She was accused of spying for Germany, causing the deaths of at least 50,000 soldiers, and was put on trial in July 1917. After a short trial conducted in private in front of a military court, she was found guilty of spying for Germany and sentenced to death by firing squad. The French executed Zelle on Oct. 15, 1917. She was 41 years old. Legacy During World War I, Zelles frequent traveling across international borders and her varied companions caused several countries to wonder if she was a spy or even a double-agent. Many people who met her say that she was sociable but just not smart enough to pull off such a feat. The notion that Zelle was an exotic dancer who used her powers of seduction to extract military secrets was false. She was years past her prime as a dancer by the time she agreed to serve as a spy for France- and possibly for Germany. Zelle maintained her innocence up until the time of her death. Its major market segments are Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania from where it generates huge profits. Its main motive now is to setup factories locally wherever it can, and then hire local employees. It also tends to rely on local resources and raw material. Therefore, a lot of attention is paid towards its professional training and its social environment. Nestle was founded in 1866 in Vevey, Switzerland, and is a public own company. The company has over 250,000 shareholders and out of those no one owns more than 3% of the stock. Only 1.5% of its profit is generated from its homeland, and rest is from the other 12 factories that it has overseas. Nestle is known for its wide range of products, such as; baby food, dairy product, beverages, pet care, ice-creams, and pharmaceuticals products, etc (Nestle 2010). SHRM at Nestle NESTLE A HUMAN COMPANY Nestle is a human Company and I can say this because they pay special attention to the individual needs of their customer and employees. You can see from their attitude and sense of responsibility that how much they are concern for their people. Its true that Nestle wants to increase its profit, sales, market segment, but not at the cost which would affect the quality life of its consumer and employee. Therefore, Nestle believes in; High Performance High Involvement High Commitment. 10. My views on Nestlà ©s SHRM According to me I think that Nestle has done a great job in meeting its strategic HRM. This is because Nestle has successfully linked its HRM with its strategic goals and objectives in order to improve its business performance and long-term customer relationship. The company has aligned its HR strategies with its business goals, through which it achieved its core values. It kept its employees and customers satisfied by looking after their needs and requirements. Nestle totally achieved its strategic HRM by meeting its objectives which were; Market its Companys products in such a ways, which links with its customer needs and lifestyle. Wanted customers and employees trust in its brand To recruit the right person for the right job Therefore, its proved that Nestle did meet its Strategic HRM, but with this it doesnt mean it stops here. (Nestle Careers 2002) Three Nestles HR policies that I will be talking about are as follows; 11.1 TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT Theory discussed As per to Drucker the one contribution that manager should make it that he should provide better vision to other, so that they could perform better. So basically main work of manager is to motivate, train, and develop people in through the means of training. According to Kirkpatrick there are four level of learning evaluation which is through reaction, learning, behavior and finally the result. If you follow these four principles you will get to know how to train your employees and in which field they need improvements in (Business Balls 2009). Nestlà ©s Training and Development process At Nestle Training and Development is very important, from bottom to top. Everywhere in the world, every company runs its own training and development methods, such as; classroom courses, e-Learning, etc. Therefore, Nestle also got its own training and Development procedure, which is as follows; Nestle provides the following- Literacy training-to upgrades essential literacy skills, especially for workers who operate new equipment. Nestle Apprenticeship Programs. Local Training Programs-on issues ranging from technical, leadership, and communication and business economics. My views on Nestles Training process According to me Nestle is not doing a good job in its training and development department, therefore with the changing time it should also be changed and improved. By doing this it will help Nestle to improve their business productivity and growth. Therefore, a special attention should be paid towards the training process of employees, so that the company performs well in the long run. My recommendations In todays time it is very important that training practices should be changed as the business strategy changes. Therefore you should always keep in mind few things when you are developing a training strategy, such as; Always recognize the skills and abilities needed by employees. Then have an outline which will describe that how your investment in training will help in meeting business goals. Finally, execute the plan you made and monitor the progress that it resulted into (tutor2u 2009). In case of small scale organization, training can be given by a supervisor or a skilled man, whereas in large organizations, there should be a full time training officer on training department for the employees. The training methods that I would recommend for Nestles are as follows; Training on the job By this I mean that training should be provided at the work place. For example; A proper instructions and demonstration should be provided to the trainee regarding their job. A special coaching should be provided to employee. By this I mean that there should be close working relationship between an experienced employee and the trainee, so that trainee can learn and adapt to new surroundings. A job rotation should be done regularly. By doing so a trainee will learn and experience different task and activities that are going on in the organization. Advantages of- on the job training Its very cost effective for the company. It seems to be very productive, because while learning they are also working. By having someone standing on the top, give employees more confidence, because they know they are doing good job. Training off the job Off the job training means that employees have to take training by staying away from work place. This is a very formal kind of training provided to employees. Off the job training can either be provided by the companys training department or through external provider. The examples of off the job training are as follows; First one is Day release. It is when employee has to take some time out from the routine working hours and have to attend training centre The other one is that you have to take evening classes outside the work premises and hours. Then you have sandwich courses, where the employee has to spend around 6-9 months in college before joining work. Advantages of off-the-job training: A special outside trainer is appointed by the company, so they save money by not hiring trainer on fixed salary. Employee can pay his full attention on training rather than working and getting distracted. The employees will get opportunity to meet other business employees who are there to learn the same techniques. Demonstration It is one the most effective training skills. In this trainer show trainees how they have to work and perform their task. In some cases trainer should include the trainees in his demonstration so that they could feel and observe the work practically rather than just looking at it. Therefore, Nestle could provide any of above training options that I have recommended. By doing so, it will improve its productivity, because now employee will better understand their work. As of now they have done proper training in the field they were lacking before. RECRUITMENT AND PLACEMENT Theory discussed According to Sam Paul it is not necessary to do recruiting yourself, either it is better if you higher and external source for recruiting on your behalf. By this you can just give them the structure or guidelines, from which they will choose a candidate for you. This is very time saving and proves to be cheaper most of the times (Free Articles 2010). Therefore, company should adapt to online recruitment by installing new software known as resume parser. This software can automatically short list the best candidate needed for that post. After that interview could be arranged. This will save a lot of time and money of the company, because now they dont have to go through the complete process of recruiting (Amazines 2010). Nestlà ©s Recruitment and Placement process Nestle has a very outstanding recruitment practices. Nestle, just doesnt fill jobs, instead they look for the right person for the right job to maintain work efficiency. Nestle works very hard to get the right set of people so that it can survive this tough market competition. (HR resource 2010) The recruitment process at Nestle is clearly defined according to its business needs which is; People with qualities like dynamism, realism, pragmatism, hard work, honesty and trustworthiness are looked for. Match between candidates values companys culture are recruited. Recruitment for management levels take place in the head office by top management and all others at the branch level. The existing employees are promoted to higher posts as per the requirements. There are no lateral recruitments. Another source of recruitment is campus placements and human resource consultancies to look for the enthusiastic, motivated and fresh pool of talent. Decision to hire a candidate is finally taken by HR professionals only and no preference is given to external consultant. This is done to finally have the judgment power in the hands of Company. Recruitment process is also totally based on hiring and recruitment of people who bring in new ideas. My Views on Nestles Recruitment Process According to me Nestles Recruitment process could be changed or improved in many ways. Nestle do have some good recruitment policies but at the same time its old, and to survive in todays stiff market competition one has to keep updated. Therefore, I would like to give some recommendations regarding how Nestle can improve its recruitment process. My Recommendations Therefore, according to me they should have a totally new recruitment process, which should be like; The company should first identify the vacancy, under which the requirement should be; what posts to be filled, number of persons required for the post, what duties they have to perform, and finally the qualifications required for hiring. Should prepare the job description and the person with what kind of skill is required for that job. Should give advertisement on the TV, Newspaper etc mentioning the skills they looking for. From the response that came in, Nestle should short list the people who best fit the job description (Recruitment 2007). Then the company should arrange the interview with the chosen candidates. Finally they should conduct the interview and get back to them with their final decision. After this the recruitment process should be immediately followed by the selection process. The employee should be hired based on the requirement, and the formalities should be taken care off. Recent Trend in Recruitment Nestle should adapt to OUTSOURCING It is when the external firm helps the organization by looking for the candidates according the needs and requirement of the organization. So in simple terms outsourcing firm gets the right candidate for the organization as per their needs and requirements. In turns of this, organizations pay huge amount of money to the outsourcing firm for their services. Example of outsourcing process is in the following table; POACHING/RAIDING It is one of the most common techniques applied in todays business. Poaching means that you can directly buy the persons talent, rather than developing it from the start in new person. All the skills that you required for the job could be in this person, who is doing the same work in some other reputed company, which could be your competitor. So the question is what can you do to get him? The answer is simple; you could offer him or her attractive and enhanced pay package with extra facilities (like, holiday packages, car, driver, house, etc). This will surely attract him, and he will shake hands with your company. By doing this you have weakened your competitor, and saved training and recruitment cost and time (Articles Base 2008). E-RECRUITMENT In todays time many big companies use internet for recruitment. Through the means of Internet, company can post its requirement for the vacant job. Then people can send in their CVs/Resume if they think that they are applicable for the job described. By doing this it saves a lot of time for both candidate and the company. Because now company can just reply or call in the person for interview who they think best met the requirement. REWARDS INCENTIVES Theory Discussed According to Stephen Burg it is very important to keep employees satisfied and happy so that they could work efficiently. The organization can do this by providing them with some kinds of rewards such as; appraisal, incentives, promotion, gifts, etc. According to Daniel it is very important to give rewards and appreciate your employees work, but at the same time it should be related to their performance, and their competitive nature. Effective Training and Development: At Nestle most of the trainings are done by in-house trainers. But with the changing time they should call external trainer for specialized training. Besides this Nestle should also have training abroad program, so that employees get the feel of global market by working outside. Entrepreneurship strategy: Every employee needs to be an independent entrepreneur, who can generate ideas and bring them to reality by using the existing resources and support of the organization to create innovative and creative products and services. Recruit purposefully In todays time when most of the organizations are firing people you should have more recruitment going on for the search of talented people. So its a great time for savvy companies to hire talented people who have been down-sized by other organizations. This will give advantage to Nestle in coming years. 13. Rare Resource of Nestle: Its uniqueness in Infant food products Processes and ingredients they use are rare. A resource is inimitable and non substitutable if it is difficult for another firm to acquire it or a substitute something else in its place. This is probably the toughest criteria to examine because given enough time and money almost ANY resource can be imitated. Therefore, one way to think about this is to compare how long you think it will take for competitors to imitate or substitute something else for that resource and compare it to the useful life of the product. Russian Bank Scandal :: essays research papers

On October 6, 1999 the news hour with Jim Lehrer air a focus topic called â€Å"Following the Money†. This focus discussion dealt with the Russian Bank Scandal. This scandal deals with the transfer of about seven billions dollars out of the Bank of New York to companies with Russian associations. Robert O’Harrow , a banking expert for the Washington Post, believes that this scandal will become a serious policy issue. Base on his conclusion of this becoming a serious problem, one may see that there are problems in the banking structure of the United States. In fact there has to be a problem when seven billion dollars of transions are made to foreign soils and no one throws up a red flag. One may also conclude that this scandal reaches further that the banking structure. The question must be ask, â€Å"Where is all this money coming from†? This money could be money that was given by the International Monetary Fund to help rebuild the fallen Russian economy. That mo ney could now be being used to support criminal activities. As we see now this could be not only an international problem, but a domestic problem also. In today’s warfare the victor is left in rebuilding the fallen enemy. In this case the United States won the cold war and is now left to pay the bill for rebuilding Russia. The money that is being use comes directly from taxpayers. I believe that this is the reason why Mr. O’Harrow believes this will have a serious effect on policy decision. If the money that is supposed to help the Russian people is being for wrongdoing and the Russians are behind this, the scandal could have a serious effect on U.S. and Russian relations. Policy makers will be force to make changes in the methods it helps Russian during this time of need.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  This scandal can be serious external triggering mechanism. With the scandal dealing largely with belief that international money is being used to support illegal activities could cause a major shift in decision making. At the moment the Intensity of this problem has not reach a level of alert. Mainly become most American do not see the potential backlash of this scandal. Once the facts come out and taxpayers are forced to tote the bill of paying back the lost funds then the matter will intensify. Also American can grow tired of given money to a country that does no use money for reasons the money was given to them.

Unique memory

Each individual has unique memory for oneself shared with no one else in the world. Such memory makes one different from others. Therefore I am curious to know what memory is. Right now I am Just a bundle of â€Å"memories† in my mind and body. Psychology defines it as a process in which information is encoded, stored, and retrieved. But is memory limited to the define domain? If so, how do millions of atoms that could be flying through the cells randomly stay to gather in a double helix structure in order to create a DNA molecule in a way so that it is unique to every vying creature on earth?It is difficult to explain this without knowing how memory truly works. Memory must be evolving at a much deeper level,perhaps even from the physical level and could manifest into chemical, biological and psychological levels. Perhaps physics has an explanation. Memory could be more fundamental than physics, and as a result memory can help us understand physics better. This notion may dra stically transform the way we have been looking at physical aspects of the universe. This shift In thought among physicist is because of their Inability to explain the random nature of elementary articles.KM (Quantum mechanics) the most successful theory In physics, can Just give us the probability to find a particle In a given location and time.
